Applicants for a Florida real estate sales associate’s license must be at least 18 years of age, hold a high school diploma or its equivalent and be honest, truthful, and trustworthy and be of good character and have a reputation for fair dealing. A final examination must be passed with a score of 70% or higher to successfully complete the course.
To apply for a Florida real estate sales associate license, go to www.myfloridalicense.com and click on the Apply for a License link. Although the application can be printed and mailed or completed online, applying online is recommended. In addition to the application, fingerprints must be submitted electronically and information on the web site explains this process. If you have questions regarding applying for a Florida real estate sales associate license, contact the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) at 850-487-1395 or email the DBPR at call.center@dbpr.state.fl.us.
The time to process the application will vary depending on the DBPR and the information included on the application. The applicant is notified after the application is approved and can schedule an examination with the testing service. Examinations are given at numerous locations in Florida and other states and the actual date and time will depend on availability. A course completion certificate verifying successful completion of the pre license course is valid for up to years after the course is completed and must be presented to the testing service in order to take the state examination. The application for a Florida real estate sales associate license is valid for up to two years after the application is received by the DBPR. An applicant must pass a Florida real estate sales associate examination with a score of 75% or higher before the expiration date of the application and within two years after the completion of the pre license course.
After passing the Florida state examination, the applicant is issued an inactive Florida real estate sales associate’s license. This status can be changed to active status by affiliating with either a Florida real estate brokerage firm or an owner employer and completing the appropriate forms which can be obtained from the DBPR. Services of real estate may not be performed until the license status has been changed to active which can be verified by going to www.myfloridalicense.com and clicking on the Verify a License link.
Sales associates are required to successfully complete a post license education requirement before the expiration date of the initial license consisting of a 45 hour course that can be taken either online or in a classroom. A final examination must be passed with a score of 75% or higher to successfully complete the course. If a licensee fails to complete the post license requirement prior to the expiration date of the initial license, the license becomes void and re-applying for a license, successfully completing another pre license course and passing another state exam would be required. The initial license is valid for 18 months to 24 months depending on the date the state examination is passed and completion of the post license education requirement early is recommended. After the initial license period, all licensees are required to complete a continuing education requirement consisting of a 14 hour course that can be taken either online or in a classroom. A final examination must be passed with a score of 80% or higher to successfully complete the online courses and a final examination is not required for the classroom course.
